Litoměřice (Czechia)
Follower site for Borehole Thermal Energy Storage (BTES).
The Litoměřice test site is a research infrastructure (RINGEN – Research Infrastructure for Geothermal ENergy) in Czechia focused on geothermal heat extraction and storage. In PUSH-IT, pilot wells for future Borehole Thermal Energy Storage system will be developed. We aim to do the following:
Project details
Integration
The BTES system will be integrated in the current district heating network operated by a private entity covering about 70% of the total heat demand of the town of Litoměřice (24.000 inhabitants) and supplying the public, private and residential sector. The main aim is to couple various energy resources supplying electricity, heating and cooling, increase the overall efficiency of the system and cope with the seasonal mismatch of the heat demand and production.
Future SYNERGYS energy concept (see diagram) will be divided into four different systems integrating various energy sources and their functions. The system will produce low and high temperature heat and passive cooling and supply buildings of the RINGEN research centre and the heat network together with the deep enhanced geothermal source. Total of 1-3 MWt is expected to be installed in the post-trial period and connected to the heat network. This would cover 100% of heat demand during the off-season and up to 10% of the current peak heat demand in the heating season, but much more in the future when the heat network will be renovated and operated on lower temperatures below 100°C.
